Halo of Flies

I'm starting to feel like a monster
My skin starts to turn red and swell
I guess this is what it's like
to be ripped from the bowels of hell
I can feel my horns start to grow
out of my temples again
I'm so glad that the summer is over,
it's hot enough in my head
Cloven hooves where my shoes were
Totally blacked out my eyes
Tail coming out of my waist
Head with a halo of flies
My teeth turn pointy and yellow
My tongue is as sharp as a knife
I've never felt more sick of myself
than this very moment of life
***
And I hope that the next time you see me
will be the last
And I hope that a meteor rains down
and obliterates the past
***
Short, black whip made of rust
cutting across my back
Weighed down in chains of my own design,
arteries under attack
I'm starting to think that I'm dying,
but none of these things seem to hurt
My brain is filled with demons
My heart doesn't know how to work
***
And I hope that the next time you see me
will be the last
And I hope that a meteor rains down
and obliterates the past
And I hope that we all find peace somewhere
beyond the stars
And morning will shine onto your face
Wherever you are

False Memory

I was sitting in my drive way
when the clouds covered the sun.
I was drawing with chalk on the concrete
all the men I'd never become.
I remember the petrichor,
and the smells of the sky,
and through several small holes in the darkness above
were beautiful pillars of light.
I hear the calls to come inside;
it's just about to rain
the giant grey blanket that sits up above me
is holding more than it can contain,
and when the rain comes pouring down,
it washes clean the street.
In that pure moment of radiant joy,
I was young
and wild
and free!
